FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has given the club his approval of a potential January transfer market signing according to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources.
Barça sporting director Deco and Flick had said in the past that there would be no movements in the team, neither in nor out, until at least June, when the 2024/2025 season will have already ended.
Huge developments in Catalonia as of late have caused that initial plan to be altered, however.
While Barça was looking for tactics to sign the summer signings of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor after December 31, president Joan Laporta arranged the sale of VIP boxes for 102 million dollars at Spotify Camp Nou, which allowed the Blaugrana to return to despite everything to The 1:1 rule under the monetary regime. Limits of fair play.
This means that Barca can possibly make reinforcements in the ongoing winter transfer window, though they also need to offload at least one player which could be Ansu Fati, Eric Garcia or even Ronald Araujo.
Italian media such as La Repubblica strongly link the Uruguayan with Juventus, and the Catalan journalist Joan Fontes explained that he had already informed his fellow captains that he would renew his contract with Barça.
However, in the coming weeks, Araujo could be important to the cause again, given the injury Inigo Martinez sustained in the emphatic 5-2 win over Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final at the weekend.
Days before that match and Inigo’s setback, SPORT reported that Barça would do “everything possible” to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United on a first temporary loan until the end of the season.
According to the same newspaper’s journalist, David Bernabéu, in his podcast La Possession, Flick has agreed to sign Rashford before the winter market closes.
Preferably, Rashford would provide more features for the left wing where Raphinha plays lately.
Though the Brazil international is in the form of his life and is likely to keep his place even if the Englishman arrives in Montjuic, Rashford’s potential presence would mean that Lamine can be rested sometimes as Raphinha returns to his previous right wing berth occupied before the rise of the Golden Boy teenager.
With just over fifteen days before clubs can buy back before the summer, Barça will have to act temporarily to acquire a striker that Flick would not hesitate to count on.
