FC Barcelona makes a resolution regarding its squad for the Spanish Super Cup

FC Barcelona and its head coach Hansi Flick have made an important decision regarding the group that will travel to Saudi Arabia for the Spanish Super Cup next week.

Barca travel to the Middle East to try to regain the crown they won at the start of 2023 in thrilling fashion against Real Madrid, but then surrendered to bitter rivals a year ago when Vinicius Jr. scored the fastest hat-trick in the history of the Clasico. . component of a 4-1 thrashing.

Xavi Hernandez was the manager at the time, and has since been replaced through Flick after agreeing to extend his contract until June 30, 2025, but was later allowed to speak publicly about the club’s monetary limitations.

Those same issues have affected squad planning in 2024/2025. Barca was only able to make two signings in the summer – who were namely Dani Olmo and Pau Victor from RB Leipzig and Girona respectively – and register them to play until December 31.

As that deadline approached, a ruling was issued that La Liga would not grant a license for the remainder of the season.

Even when Barca finally returned to the 1:1 rule under Financial Fair Play (FFP) limits after selling VIP boxes in its Spotify Camp Nou stadium for $103 million (€100 million), the Spanish top flight and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) again refused to give the players the green light meaning they continue to be sidelined.

That meant they could have no part in Saturday’s 4-0 Copa del Rey win over Barbastro given the competition is run by the RFEF, and that same logic applies to the Spanish Super Cup plus its semifinal clash the Catalans contest against Athletic Club on January 8.

After Barbastro’s victory, Flick and defender Ronald Araujo commented on the access package.

“We have to be professional and settle for the situation of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor. I try not to let that affect the functionality of the team,” said Flick.

“Everyone needs Olmo and Víctor to be with us, however we focus on the game against Barbastro. We can’t do anything about it. We have to settle for that, be professional and paint on the field,” he said. he added.

The resolution, however, aimed to have the Spanish on the team in some way.

As shown by the media, they will travel to Saudi Arabia to be part of the furniture, although neither of them can play at a festival dance.

That boosts morale overall, especially if Barca can go all the way as it did two years ago amid a slump in effects that ended in 2024.
