FC Barcelona is now planning to make sales in the January transfer window according to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources.
The Catalans have had good and bad news at the beginning of 2025.
Although Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor have not yet been able to play after La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) refused to grant them licenses beyond December 31, the sale for 104 million dollars (100 million euros) of the VIP boxes of the renovated Spotify Camp Nou, despite everything, has allowed the club to return to the 1:1 rule within the framework of Financial Fair Play (FFP).
While Barca were expected to see little movement in the January transfer window in the past, this key new progression has replaced the first team’s plans according to SPORT.
The club has been asked to meet with agents to investigate the departures of “several players” in the coming weeks and naturally the fringes and stars who do not play a significant role in coach Hansi Flick’s plans are mainly in the crosshairs.
If some of them were offloaded, it may just permit Barca to make a new signing that would the beginning XI as we head toward the finish of the season.
Although Barça are currently five clear of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga after leading them by six, they are still in the race for the title and also in second place in the new league level of La Liga. Champions and alive in the national cup competitions of Spain.
Sporting director Deco and Hansi Flick were in favour of keeping things as they are until at least June, but that plan has disappeared in light of recent events.
In a press conference ahead of Saturday’s 4-0 Copa del Rey victory over Barbastro, Flick expressed his preference for Eric García to stay.
“I don’t think he can leave, he is a wonderful player, he is very intelligent, he can play in several positions. He is a player we like and we are not thinking about the option of his leaving,” Flick said.
SPORT says, however, that he is on a short list of potential sales, along with former La Masia prospect Ansu Fati and, in all likelihood, Andreas Christensen.
As those players either came through the academy or came to the club via loose transfers, getting rid of them would bring a natural benefit to Barça.
It now remains to be seen whether interested parties will sign up for the trio and others who will soon have a stage replacement.
