Barcelona has rejected a $36 million (€35 million) offer from Juventus for defender Ronald Araujo, but is willing to settle for between €70 million and €80 million, according to MARCA, citing anonymous sources.
This week has seen various reports from Italy explain that Araujo has agreed to join the ‘Old Lady’ in the ongoing winter transfer window.
Araujo, injured in July in his country’s Copa América quarterfinals against Brazil, made his debut under Hansi Flick last weekend against Barbastro.
Despite being sidelined, he saw Pau Cubarsi and Íñigo Martínez form one of the most productive centre-back partnerships in European football, helping Barça win La Liga for six editions before the team collapsed towards the end of the year.
While La Gazzetta dello Sport first reported that Araujo had given Juve his contract, La Repubblica went on to say that Serie A had convinced Barça to accept a deal consisting of an initial loan paid for the rest of the club. crusade and then a legal responsibility to buy the Uruguayan.
MARCA demystifies this news and explains on Saturday, before Barça faces its eternal rival, Real Madrid, in the final of the Spanish Super Cup, that Barça rejected a proposal of 35 million euros from Juventus for Araujo .
It would be willing to accept something between $71.8-82 million (€70-80 million), however, and the same outlet writes that Juventus is prepared to raise its offer to $51.3 million (€50 million).
Such a bid would still fall short of Barca’s asking price then, which was as high as $102.5 million (€100 million) this time last year when Bayern Munich was interested in Araujo.
In the pre-match press conference on Saturday to offer the Clásico, Flick asked about Araujo and said: “When I started as a coach, I saw that there were a lot of rumors. “
“Ronald recovered from a terrible injury and is now strong enough to play. It’s an option and it’s very professional. I think we have taken care of it.
“It’s not my role to spread rumors, but I need him on my team. He’s one of the defenders,” Flick added.
Because of this, several top European clubs, and not just Juventus, are keen to snatch Araujo away from Barca at a time when he is still yet to renew a contract which expires on June 30, 2026.
