Fire damages structural fixtures at BASF in Toms River

TOMS RIVER, N. J. – A fire that ruptured the structural apparatus of BASF’s assets on Friday as a result of a mechanical failure, Toms River officials said.

The fire, which destroyed a skid steer, was more than a half-mile from the property’s paved road and firefighters from Toms River Fire Companies 1 and 2 used access roads to the fire to put out the blaze, Chief Inspector Matthew Janora said. The Wildland Fire Department also responded.

Janora said the cases surrounding the chimney cause don’t seem suspicious. Initial investigation indicates that the chimney was caused by a mechanical failure.

The fire is being investigated by Inspector Britton of the Toms River Fire Prevention Unit.
