The alleged partner of ZIMBABWE Federation of Miners’ President Henrietta Rushwaya in the 6kg gold smuggling union, Gift Karanda, has appointed First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa and her double son, Collins, the gold bars intercepted Monday at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
An internal police memo leaked through NewsDay Weekender revealed that after Rushwaya was arrested at the airport with gold bars worth more than $330,000, Karanda had tried to save her.
Karanda, 44, who is accused of defeating or obstructing the course of justice, allegedly told airport detectives that the Rushwaya gold rush belonged to the First Lady and a son of the First Family, who believed they had brought it because of other commitments. he had asked Rushwaya to send it on his behalf.
At the time of his arrest, Rushwaya allegedly claimed to have won the package through Pakistani businessman Ali Mohammed and passed it on to an anonymous recipient in Dubai.
Contacted for comment, national police spokesman Deputy Commissioner Paul Nyathi said he knew the First Lady and her son had been concerned about the case.
“I didn’t see what Karanda. No I’m aware of those disorders if they were discussed through it,” Nyathi said.
Collins was in the past connected to a $60 million COVID-19 acquisition scandal involving Drax International led through Delish Nguwaya, a close friend of the first family.
