Florentino Pérez opens the presidential elections at Real Madrid

The president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, took the first step with the celebration of presidential elections in the club this Thursday and called a meeting of the board of directors for next week.

Elections to take the helm of LaLiga’s giants are held every four years, and Perez has been re-elected unopposed since returning to the club for a second stint in 2009.

The requirements to qualify to stand for Madrid president are strict, including having been a club member for at least 20 years, and being able to personally guarantee 15% of the club’s budget.

“The president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, convenes the club’s board of directors on January 7, 2025, at 5:30 p. m. (Paris time), in order to start the procedure for the election of the president and the board of directors for the next 4 years,” the club said on aArray on a brief Thursday.

Perez, Madrid’s first president in 2000, presided over the club’s “Galactic” era, before resigning in 2006. He returned to the club’s presidency in 2009, was elected unopposed and found no opposition in 2013, 2017 or 2021.

In 2021, the electoral procedure ended in just thirteen days.

Perez presided over the most successful era in the club’s history, winning a total of 37 trophies, adding six Champions Leagues, an unprecedented figure in the last decade.

Also this Friday, Real Madrid reached an agreement with Espanyol for Pablo Ramón Parra to play for the club, currently 18th in La Liga. Real Madrid’s Castilla spent a season on loan at C. D. Mirandés.
