The former president of Wolfsburg, Francisco García Sanz, has joined the Real Madrid board as one of the four new additions following the re-election of president Florentino Pérez.
Perez was re-elected as Madrid president for a fifth successive term on Sunday after standing uncontested.
The club also confirmed the appointments of four new board members until 2029 following Sunday’s board meeting: Garcia Sanz, Manuel Redondo Sierra, Jose Angel Sanchez and Manuel Gomez Barrera.

Garcia Sanz was Wolfsburg chairman between 2009 and 2018 and had been on the Bundesliga club’s board since 2004.
Redondo Sierra and Angel Sanchez, meanwhile, were already at Madrid as director of the president’s office and general director respectively but will now take on more responsibility at the club. Both have been linked to the club since 2000.
The fourth new member of the board of directors is Gómez Barrera, who previously worked in the club’s social department, committed to the supporters clubs.
Perez was Madrid president between 2000 and 2006, before returning to the role in 2009.
The 77-year-old has run un-contested in elections since his return in 2013, 2017, 2021 and now 2025.
A Madrid read: “After having been a single candidate proclaimed through this Electoral Council and in accordance with article 40, section E, point 2 of the current Articles of Association of the Club, Mr. Florentino Pérez Rodríguez is proclaimed president of Real Madrid. “
Madrid won seven La Liga titles and the Champions League seven times during Pérez’s presidency.
Redondo Sierra and Ángel Sánchez are the two most important people in the club, only Pérez.
His new role on the board replaces his executive position, but only increases his official responsibility, according to board sources.
Madrid also hired businessman Francisco García. He earned a reputation in the automotive sector as a member of the board of directors of the Volkswagen Group and is well versed in the world of sport having been president of Wolfsburg from 2009 to 2018.
During Pérez’s last term, from 2021 to 2025, the board suffered the death of two members: first vice president Fernando Fernández-Tapias and then Raúl Ronda.
There is no minimum number of administrators required to create a new board and Pérez to incorporate 4 new faces. The only woman is the State lawyer and advisor to the insurer Mapfre Catalina Minarro, 54 years old, who has been part of the Madrid council since 2017.

In recent years there have been few changes to the club’s control design and this change is even more significant.
This new era is considered essential to clearly determine who will be Pérez’s successor. Senior club resources expect more important changes to the structure.
