Football-Barca in talks with Koeman after firing Setién – source

BARCELONA – Barcelona is negotiating an agreement to appoint Dutch coach Ronald Koeman as Quique Setien’s successor, a club said on Tuesday, as Catalans seek to rebuild after their 8-2 war against Bayern Munich in the Champions League last week.

Koeman is highly regarded by Barca for his career as a player in Johan Cruyff’s successful team known as the “Dream Team” and for setting the goal that helped the club win the first European Cup in 1992.

The defence then assistant coach of the club before embarking on a turbulent career as head coach, conducting the Dutch groups Ajax Amsterdam, PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord, as well as the Premier League groups Southampton and Everton and Valencia of La Liga.

Spanish and Dutch media reported that Barca was in talks with Koeman, which led the Netherlands to qualify for the European Championships, which were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. (Report through Richard Martin; Edited through Hugh Lawson)
