(Reuters) – Chelsea signed a three-year contract with Canadian midfielder Jessie Fleming, on Wednesday announced the women’s Super League (WSL) protective champions.
The 22-year-old joins Chelsea on her first contract after spending four years with the UCLA Bruins football team, where she scored 25 goals in 75 games.
Fleming, who made his overseas debut at age 15, played 77 times for Canada, the World Cup in 2015 and 2019.
She is also part of the team that won a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
“I knew I was looking to play in the WSL, I think the league is doing well right now and there are a lot of fantastic players in the league, so I was excited,” Fleming said to the club’s online page https: // www. .chelseafc.com/is /news/2020/07/22/chelsea-fc-women-sign-Canadian-jessie-fleming? cardIndex – 0-0.
“For Chelsea, the players here and I are looking to be in a complicated environment.”
Fleming becomes Chelsea’s third new signing following the arrival of midfielder Melanie Leupolz and winger Niamh Charles.
“Jessie is one of the young players in the world, so for us, beating many other club signings for her is a testament to the paintings that have been made here for several years,” Chelsea coach Emma Hayes said.
