LONDON: Chelsea signed England’s left-back Ben Chilwell from Leicester City on a five-year contract, announced the Premier League on Wednesday (26 August).

The main financial points of the deal were revealed, but british media reported that Chelsea had paid 50 million pounds ($66 million) for the 23-year-old.

Chilwell has played 99 league games for Leicester in years at the club.

“I’m very happy to sign for Chelsea at this exciting time for the club,” Chilwell told london club’s website.

“I look forward to being part of this young, dynamic team led by Frank Lampard as we defy honors next season.”

Chilwell is Chelsea’s third major signing foe the new season following the arrivals of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech from RB Leipzig and Ajax Amsterdam respectively.

They have also been linked to Bayer Leverkusen offensive midfielder Kai Havertz as Frank Lampard attempts his appearance to fight for the Premier League title.

Chelsea finished fourth last season to qualify for the Champions League in Lampard’s first coaching crusade. The new season begins against Brighton Hove and Albion on 14 September.
