PARIS: Neymar has sealed an approval deal with Puma, the German company announced on Saturday (September 12), two weeks after the Brazilian superstar left his sponsor Nike.
“Welcome to the family @neymarjr #KingIsBack,” Puma tweeted next to a photo of Paris Saint-Germain’s striker, dressed in the giant’s sportswear.
The world’s top player has shown his new role as the boy on the Puma poster in an open letter posted on social media.
“I grew up watching videos of wonderful football legends like Pelé, Cruyff, Eusebio and MaradonaArray . . . who played in Puma.
“For these reasons, as of today, I have the honor of joining the logo that has helped football’s greatest legends be who they are,” he wrote.
Neither Neymar nor Puma gave main points of the duration of the contract or its value.
Speculation has circulated that the 28-year-old has signed with Puma since his approval agreement ended with Nike, the company that has sponsored him since he was a 13-year-old child prodigy.
PUMA STATUE
News that an agreement had been reached was first published through the Brazilian sports online page Esporte Interativo, known for revealing the story of Neymar’s move from Barcelona to PSG in 2017.
Citing “exclusive information,” he said the main points of Neymar’s agreement and Puma’s first promotional appearances were expected “in the coming days. “
Neymar had given the impression of going back that a deal was coming, Esporte Interativo said.
He recently followed Puma, PumaFootball and 8 other logo-related accounts on Instagram, and on Thursday posted a photo of himself giving the impression of being a statue of a cougar in the background.
Neymar’s most recent deal with Nike is said to have been an 11-year contract worth a total of $105 million.
Forbes magazine, which ranks it seventh among the highest-paid celebrities in the world, estimates its earnings for this year at $95. 5 million in sponsorship contracts.
PSG paid a record 222 million euros for Barcelona in 2017.
With its slim beauty, tattoos, ever-changing hairstyles and massive social media success, Neymar is one of the most important names in the game and beyond: its logo has rarely tarnished.
On the field, critics accuse him of diving into the games. Off the court, he was charged with tax evasion and a rape charge in 2019.
Brazilian police then dismissed the case and mentioned the lack of evidence.
He was forced to miss the first match of the PSG Ligue 1 season on Thursday after becoming positive for COVID-19 after vacationing in Ibiza following the final defeat of the PSG Champions League to Bayern Munich.
