ALCOY – Real Madrid suffered a surprise 2–1 loss to Alcoyano of the 3rd department to leave the Copa del Rey after Wednesday.
Eder Militao headed a center of compatriot Marcelo to give the Real the lead in the first half, but Alcoyano’s replacement, José Solbes, tied for the hosts with 10 minutes remaining in the extra time.
Alcoyano was reduced to 10 men in the 110th minute when Ramón López picked up a yellow card for a moment for a foul on Casemiro, but discovered an unlikely winner five minutes later when midfielder Juanan centered from a short distance.
Zidane made nine adjustments to the team that won 2–1 through Athletic Bilbao in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup last week, but was still able to line up an initial 11-forging with five Champions League winners. (Report via Richard Martin edited through Tothrough Davis)
