Football: Veteran midfielder Andrea Pirlo returns to Juventus

Juventus have named World Cup-winning midfielder Andrea Pirlo as coach of the under-23 team, Serie A champions said.

Pirlo, considered one of the biggest midfielders of his generation, spent a decade at AC Milan before moving to Juventus, where he won four league titles and one Italian Cup for 4 years.

He left Juventus in 2015 and finished his career with Major League Soccer New York City FC.

“Today marks the beginning of a new adventure for Andrea Pirlo and Juventus, who return to the paintings in combination five years later. Andrea is the new coach of the under-23 team,” Juventus said on a Thursday.

“A new challenge awaits now, for a comeback that can make Juventus enthusiasts happy. Welcome back, Coach Pirlo!”

Pirlo won 116 matches for Italy and helped them succeed at the 2006 World Cup.
