As part of the Game Awards, Swedish studio 10 Chambers announced a new game called Den of Wolves. The studio is led by Ulf Andersson, who co-created the heist-themed Payday series, and Den of Wolves seems to be treading on familiar ground.
Den of Wolves is a sci-fi heist game in which players from rival corporations spend “unauthorized races” in a position called Midway City. 10 Chambers “futuristic and mind-blowing heists. “
“Dynamic and unpredictable moment-to-moment gameplay will challenge you and you to adapt from stealth to action-packed firefights (and vice versa) in thrilling scenarios,” the game’s description reads.
Regarding the sci-fi setting, Andersson said, “You can only rob so many banks,” adding that the sci-fi element of Den of Wolves allows the studio to offer “more variety in heists.”
“We have an enormous appreciation for the art of world-building, so while Den of Wolves is rarely an open-world game, the story and narrative we’ve built around Midway City is considerable,” said Simon Viklund, the head of 10 Chambers. “We need Midway to look like a plausible short- to long-term city where late-stage capitalism has spread and companies set the rules. As a player, you’re living in the genuine subways of Midway City without any genuine identities or IDs, build your loyalties. Become a criminal entrepreneur through your black market for jobs. “
