Mario Nicoletto discussed his decision to resign as a member of Santos. Chantée Lans has more.
NASSAU COUNTY (WABC) – For the first time, Mario Nicoletto discussed his resolution to resign as a member of the Queens District Office for embattled Congressman George Santos.
“He’s never been like this. He’s been a stoic guy,” Nicoletto said.
The 22-year-old says he met Santos in 2020 at a fundraiser on Long Island.
Nicoletto says Santos gave her her her card and they kept correspondence for a year. Nicoletto says he worked for the RNC signing with Santos.
The New York Times article revealing that Santos lied about his resume, education and family circle legacy published on Dec. 19, Nicoletto’s birthday.

“I signed up for paintings for people. I enrolled in paintings in New York’s Third Congressional District, where I grew up. You may never have expected this. That’s what I wanted. That’s what I signed because it’s very miserable for them. “Be honest. It’s very sad,” Nicoletto said.
Demonstrations and rallies held for the resignation of Santos.
The district office in Douglaston, Queens, shattered. Although Nicoletto says she received threats, she says the decision to leave was complicated.
“I can no longer say that I am a friend of his. It’s actually unfortunate, but when someone does that north of 700,000 people, I mean 72 percent of the district needs it. It’s unprecedented, it’s crazy and I think when the allegations and the documents came out, it didn’t bode well for the congressman, obviously. I had to take a step back and it’s a resolution I made for my family, for myself, my network and my friends,” Nicoletto added.
Chanteel Lans, a reporter for Eyewitness News, also asked Nicoletto where he thought the thousands of dollars from Congressman Santos’ crusade came from. He says he has no idea.
