Currently with his circle of relatives in Imphal due to the prevailing coronavirus epidemic and the next lockdown, Gouramangi spent the football break expanding his vegetable lawn developing other types of vegetables with his siblings.
“We have a small piece of land, less than an acre. It’s a short walk from our house.
“We have had a vegetable lawn there for the past two years and during the closing period, my brothers and I tried to expand it and grow other types of vegetables, such as chiles, turmeric, ginger, pumpkin, corn, karela (bitter squash). , pumpkin, lauki (bottle protector), ” said Gouramangi to www.the-aiff.com.
The formerdefensa, who is lately the head coach of FC Bengaluru United of Hero 2d Division League, added that the joy had been for him to make smart use of newly discovered lost time.
“It was a really positive delight and I really enjoyed it. Working on the lawn is fun. We went out to spend a few hours there every day. Placing flower beds, planting seeds, watering plants and picking vegetables is all so satisfying, especially when our hard paints will pay off,” he said.
“It’s a smart way to stay completely new, both physically and mentally. It also ensures that we eat healthily and also that we spend quality time with our family,” he added.
While it was in this era of confinement that he developed an interest in organic farming, Gouramangi expressed a preference for exploring this pastime in the future.
“I posted an image of my lawn on social media and my circle of relatives and friends started texting me, asking for their share,” Gouramangi joked.
“However, on a serious note, I would like to explore more in the future. Some of my friends have done it, and I’ve talked to them, too. I am very satisfied with the vegetable lawn from now on.
“I need to step forward like once. In the coming years, if there’s a chance to take it to the next point, I’d definitely be in a position for that,” he said.
Gouramangi is one of the most decorated players in Indian football in recent times, having won the National Football League, Federation Cup and Hero I-League titles, as well as the AIFF Player of the Year award in 2010.
He was also part of India’s crusade in the 2011 AFC Doha Asian Cup when he scored India’s first match against Bahrain.
“My paintings with the club (FC Bengaluru United) and my academy kept me busy during the lockdown. Outside of gardening, I make fundamental paintings every day to keep fit, like fundamental paintings and a little ball paintings. Sometimes I’m going to run too.
“I also seek to read as much as I can imagine and expand a habit. With more free time, one positive thing was to connect with other people I haven’t talked to in a long time,” he added.
