Former Liverpool coach Gerard Houllier has died at the age of 73, according to French media. The French coach is known for his time as coach of the Reds, in addition to the French national team, PSG and Aston Villa.

Houllier has had an illustrious coaching career, winning trophies. His first coach was the french Division 1 name with PSG in 1986, the first after being founded only 16 years earlier. The PSG did not gain another name until the mid-1990s before some other droughts led to dominance under a new owner in the 2010s.
Houllier’s French assistant coach Michel Platini in 1988 and had a brief term as coach of the national team in 1992.
Houllier would coach Liverpool in a joint deal with Roy Evans in 1998, however Evans left in November of the same year and Houllier took over exclusively.
With the Reds, Houllier won an FA Cup (2001) two League Cups (2001,2003) Charity Shield (2001) UEFA Cup (2001) UEFA Super Cup (2001). Houllier would give Steven Gerrard his absolute debut and take the resolution of Update Sami Hyypia with Gerrard as team captain. Houllier left the team in 2004 after a season without trophies.
However, the trophies would continue to be won as Houllier took lyon’s tough French team from the 2000s. Houllier won two championship titles in 2006 and 2007, his fifth and sixth in a row. the club’s dominance in Europe, which may not reach it and left the club after the winning season in 2007.
The French technician’s last task would be with Aston Villa. The Birmingham-based club has announced that Houllier will reposition Martin O’Neill in 2007. During his stay at Villa, he will face a number of fitness disorders and eventually enter the hospital, for lack of several matches he left the club in 2010 by mutual agreement and since then Villa has not yet finished above the ninth position received through Houllier with the club.
