Former Tottenham chief takes the rhythm of Schalke

Bundesliga GIANTS Schalke 04 has shown former Tottenham coach Christian Gross as permanent successor to fired head coach Manuel Baum.

Gross became the club’s fourth head coach in 2020, having signed a short-term contract until the end of the current season.

The 66-year-old, who pulled Tottenham out of relegation in the 1997/98 season, will have the task of getting Schalke off the back of the table and ending his depressing 29-match winning streak in the league.

The Gelsenkirchen-based club has split the tactic with two coaches since their last league win in January, former Huddersfield coach David Wagner was sacked in September and Manuel Baum followed him after just 80 days in front.

During a control race dating back more than 3 decades, Gross has enjoyed episodes in England and Germany with Tottenham and Stuttgart, and has won several league titles in Switzerland with Grasshoppers and Basel.

Schalke’s post would be the first in Europe in 8 years, after being at the helm of Egyptian Zamalek and Saudi Al-Ahli of Saudi Arabia.

He arrives with Schalke in one of the worst crises in his history, and two matches to equal the 54-year record of the Tasmanian Bundesliga in 31 matches per win.

“For Schalke 04, the next five months will be faithful to remaining in the Bundesliga,” director Jochen Schneider told the Schalke’s official website.

“Christian Gross has shown in Germany and England that he can effectively meet these challenges. It will give the team transparent orders and put us on the right path with their unwavering expectations. That’s what we’re sure of. “

His first coach as coach of Schalke will be at Hertha In Berlin on 2 January.

“We want to be goal-oriented and results-oriented,” Gross said. “I want to feel the enthusiasm of the players at all times. We have to have a smart environment in and around the team to succeed again. everything so that we can achieve our goals together.
