Free parking can be up and running at Walkden Station until next year

Loose car parking can be up and running at Walkden Station over the next year.

Detailed plans have been revealed to demolish buildings at a former Chestnut Avenue municipal depot to build a new 107-seat car park.

The unmanned facility would be free for use and open to vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists 24 hours a day; however, it will only be on 30 minutes before the first exercise and 30 minutes after the last exercise of the day, the proposal says.

A new bike shelter on site can only accommodate about 30 bikes.

There would also be 4 motorcycle parking lots, two electric vehicle charging issues and 8 spaces reserved for blue badge holders, if shipping is approved for greater Manchester (TfGM) manufacturing plan request.

One spokesman said: “The Walkden Park and Ride program will be implemented through Salford City Council and TfGM from a broader set of road improvements.

“Walkden Station is well used, but lately it has a committed car parking attached to the station.

“As a result, the streets around the station have had street parking problems that have an effect on access and traffic for local residents.

“Subject to obtaining the building permit and final approval of the investment through the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, the paintings are expected to begin in early 2021 and be completed in the spring of 2021.”

Work for safe investment for the program has been underway since 2016, when the proposal was first approved through the city’s mayor, Paul Dennett.

The Salford Bolton Network Improvement Programme, a local growth agreement in Manchester, is now in a position to fund the programme.

The plan application procedure is expected to be completed in October 2020 and, if approved, the paintings are expected to begin in early 2021 and be completed in the spring.

Construction will take between 8 and ten weeks, depending on the application, however, this can only be displayed once a contractor is appointed.

Walkden South Councilman Joshua Brooks said he was very happy with the news.

He said: “This is wonderful news for citizens and the community at large, either almost economically and economically over the next decade.”

The news comes after studies revealed that 60% of homes in Walkden are promoting above the sale price, with a 189% annual increase in the number of home-interested buyers in the Salford suburb through July.

Walkden’s genuine real estate agent, Linzi Farrell, who works for Keavney Estate, said one of Walkden’s main links is the “excellent” transport links, with the newly added Leigh Guided Busway to existing rail and road links.

The most recent figures from the Bureau of Railways and Highways show that more than 283,000 people used Walkden station in 2017/18.
