Fruta Conquerors defeated Santos FC as the curtain fell on the fifth edition of the Ralph Green/EBFA U-11 League, sponsored through the National Sports Commission at the Agricola Ground on Sunday.
The conquistadors ruled their opponents 3-2 from the penalty spot after regulation time, when Santos equalized in the final minute of regulation time to end the game 1-1 with the final whistle.
After trailing in the 26th minute, Santos FC’s Octane Moore beat tournament goalkeeper Clive Jacobs in the 30th and final minute of regulation time, prompting wild celebrations from the bench. Until Dontay Kowlessar scored for Fruta, the match had been very close and both groups performed well in attack and defense.
However, there would only be one winner and it turned out that it was the Conquistadors whose players kept their cool to score their 3 shots, Santos, on the other hand, scored two and missed two.
Kowlessar, for his eye-catching performances in the League, was named Most Valuable Player.
Meanwhile, in the third-place game, Jahfree Davson of the Friendship All-Stars scored the only goal of the game just 4 minutes into the game. Swan did his best to get the equalizer, but despite his competitive efforts, he managed to break through Friendship’s defensive line. Among the third-place winners is 9-year-old Christopher Hunte, who named the tournament’s most promising player.
On the other hand, Swan’s Eleon James won the most disciplined player award, while the Conquerors’ Dane Vancooten was the tournament’s top scorer with 8 goals. The respective winners each won a plaque and an electronic tablet.
Fruta Conqueror coach Sampson Gilbert received the Best Coach Plaque, while Swan coach Andre Gonsalves accepted the Team Sportsmanship Plaque for the highest point of the field demonstrated in the League.
Each of the fourteen teams that started the tournament received numbered jerseys with their brand, in addition to goalkeepers, and each team was also given two soccer balls and each coach was also given a jersey.
In addition to the final four teams, the others were the Herstelling Raiders, Timehri Panthers, Diamond United, Den Amstel, Samatta Point/Kaneville, Pouderoyen, Eagles of Stewartville, Agricola Red Triangle, Riddim Squad and Vengy.
