Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhaes explained the key to his move from Lille to Emirates.
The 22-year-old has signed a long-term contract worth an estimated 22 million pounds.
Gabriel joins his compatriots David Luiz and Willian in north London.
Napoli and Manchester United were interested in the player, according to Corriere dello Sport.
But speaking to Arsenal’s official website, Gabriel explained that Edu and Arteta had been persuaded to move to London.
“[Edu and I] had several discussions about Arsenal and the new project, we had a lot of conversations,” Gabriel said.
“As the days went by, I was very excited about it, and then he gave me a call from the coach and it was very reassuring.
“The fact that the coach calls you himself to tell you that he needs you to be on his team motivates you a lot. That’s the real explanation for why I’m here today.
“We didn’t communicate about [details], he just told me that I was aware of my quality, my ability and how far I can go.He also said it wouldn’t be too easy for me.
“I know he’s a wonderful coach and I’m going to progress with your help.
Gabriel also revealed that Luiz was an idol of his training years in Brazil.
“Of course David is an example, he’s a player I really appreciate,” Gabriel told Arsenal Digital.”I’ve been a great admirer of him and everything he’s accomplished.
“I’ve been watching him since he was a kid, I’ve been betting video games with his character and today it’s a dream come true to be here with him and play with him soon.
“It’s smart to have Brazilian players at the club to welcome me, it’s very vital for me.I do not speak English very well and will check out to be informed as temporarily as possible.
“Nicolas Pepe is also a smart friend of mine, also David sent me a message and welcomed me, this is very for me and makes me very happy.I can’t wait to meet the rest of the team, Willian and Gabriel Martinelli as good,” he added.
