Los Angeles Galaxy showed Monday that Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez will miss 3 to 4 weeks to a calf injury.
News of Hernandez’s illness was first announced on Saturday, but the team did not check the moment of his absence until Monday.
The Galaxy concludes the organizing game at the MLS is Back tournament on Thursday near Orlando, Florida, and the last of the tournament is scheduled for August 11, Chicharito will not play again in the event.
“He’s had a stroke in training, an injury that will take three weeks to recover, or four weeks in gravity and recovery,” Galaxy coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto said on a conference call.
Hernandez reportedly injured himself last Thursday and missed The Galaxy’s 6-2 loss to rival Los Angeles FC on Saturday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. It’s the first time he’s lost a game since joining MLS.
Chicharito had played the first 3 games of the season for the Galaxy (0-3-1, 1 point in total; 0-2-0, 0 numbers in MLS is back). He scored his first MLS goal last week in a 2–1 loss to the Portland Timbers in the club’s first game. However, he missed a penalty kick in that game and took two more chances to score.
Hernandez is the marginalized Key Galaxy. Midfielder Jonathan dos Santos will miss the entire Florida tournament after undergoing a hernia operation.
Chicharito, the all-time top scorer for the Mexican national team, spent time with the Chivas Guadalajara of Mexico, Manchester United in England, Real Madrid in Spain and Bayer Leverkusen in Germany before arriving in Los Angeles.
