Citing adjustments in other directions, Gaston High Football let head coach Alan Beckett pass on Wednesday.

“We’re just going in another direction, excited about what the long term will hold for Gaston High School,” Tammy George, principal of Gaston High School, told the Times on Thursday.

Beckett was hired as head coach in August, just two weeks before the start of the season, and helped the Bulldogs to a 2-8 record. Before he was hired, there were doubts about whether the Bulldogs would be able to box a team due to the lack of a coach and a below-average roster. With new lockers, among other changes, the duration of the program improves.

From an era under Swane Morris from 2013 to 2016, the show has dropped dramatically, from nine to 61 in the past seven seasons. During that time, the program won one or more games five times and also went 0-10 in 2012. his first season at that time in Class 2A.

The news is that the Bulldogs will begin their search for the time being next year and whoever is hired will be the third coach in less than a year. Former manager Matt Harris resigned after three seasons before the season and took on a role in the West End.

The move also means Gaston joins Southside and Etowah as county schools that will recruit new coaches ahead of the 2024 season. Southside signed Ben Stewart earlier this month, while Etowah hired Scott Peavey in December.
