German striker Volland trades Leverkusen for Monaco

MONACO: German striker Kevin Volland (pix) left Bayer Leverkusen to sign a four-year contract with AS Monaco, the French Ligue 1 team announced Wednesday, as part of an agreement of around 11 million euros (54 million ringgit).

As Leverkusen manager Peter Bosz, 28- year old Peter Bosz, spoke monday after scoring 50 goals, creating 32 more, in 148 appearances in four years for the Bundesliga team.

This is the first time Volland has joined an outdoor club in Germany.

He signed for german-born new Monaco head coach Niko Kovac, the former Croatian foreigner who was sacked by Bayern Munich last November, but who claimed his first Ligue 1 victory on Sunday with a 1-0 win over Metz.

Volland made 10 appearances for Germany, scoring a goal in the goal 8-0 San Marino minnows in 2016.

“His profile is that of a flexible striker, to play forward, as a forward or extreme on both sides,” Monaco sporting director Paul Mitchell told the club’s website.

“He’s a player who works for the team with stats illustrating his goal-giving ability.”

According to a club source, the move-in payment is 11 million euros with the most bonuses.

Volland, before the Hoffenheim, is the first signing of the Monaco merchant after the arrival of the up-and-coming central Axel Disasi de Reims.

Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes praised Volland’s “exemplary engagement” for more than 4 years and said the striker leaves with the German club’s blessing.

Leverkusen is also about to waste German midfielder Kai Havertz, 21, who is expected to join Chelsea in the coming days as part of a move-in deal estimated at one hundred million euros (492 million ringgit) .- AFP
