Frankfurt. Germany (AP) – German coach Joachim Lew made three new calls on Tuesday for the upcoming League of Nations matches against Spain and Switzerland, his team’s first matches in nearly 10 months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Italian Atalanta left-back Robin Gosens (26), Borussia Munich midfielder Florian Neuhaus (23) and Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann (30) climbed for the first time.
He chose to let the Bayern Munich and Leipzig players rest to the fullest after their participation in the Champions League final, but summoned Thilo Kehrer and Julian Draxler of Paris Saint-Germain despite their participation in Sunday’s final.
“They had a long pause,” Lew said, referring to the cancellation of the French league at the start of the pandemic.
Bayern’s Niklas Sale has also returned after a long break from injury, as well as Leroy Sané, who joined Bayern from Manchester City on the off-season. Chelsea defenseman Antonio R-diger was also withdrawn after being fired for injury.
Germany will face Spain in Stuttgart on 3 September, 3 days before Switzerland in Basel.
Germany’s last game was a 6–1 win over Northern Ireland on 19 November 2019.
