Giants get Joe Judge’s first defensive TD victory, avoiding a two-point conversion

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey – The Giants nevertheless made their own luck.

Rookie Tae Crowder returned a 43-yard loose ball for the decisive landing at 3:29 for playing in Sunday’s 20-19 win over Washington when the Giants escaped with head coach Joe Judge’s first win.

Crowder’s game, the last pick in the 2020 NFL draft, was the result of Kyler Fackrell’s firing of Washington quarterback Kyle Allen. The irrelevant pick pulled the ball loose after dropping it, and Crowder ran the rest of the way to score.

Of course, the ending is not without drama.

The Giants (1-5) hit a landing when Allen hit Cam Sims, and Washington coach Ron Rivera to win with a 2-point conversion with 36 seconds to play.

Allen drove to his left and gave the impression of having an open lane to the finish area, but hesitated and the Giants stopped the game. Exter Lawrence and Blake Martinez buried Allen.

Washington (1-5) had one last chance, but Logan Ryan, who had been defeated on the Sims landing, hit the kick at stake.
