Giants nominate Pence for assignment and get Robertson Rays

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – The San Francisco Giants cut ties with outfielder Hunter Pence on Sunday, finishing a moment with the fan favorite who wasn’t like the first.

Pence, 37, named a 40-man spot for the Daniel Robertson type of requests, who acquired the previous Tampa Bay Rays for cash or a player to be named later.

Pence, a passionate and emotional leader of the Giants from 2012 to 2018, helped the anchor groups that won the World Series in 2012 and 2014.

After joining the All-Star team with Texas last season, he returned to San Francisco in February on a one-year, $3 million contract, but reached only 0.096 with two homes and six RBIs in 17 games.

Robertson will report to the Giants’ election practice in Sacramento. The team also reinstated reliever Sam Coonrod from the 10-day disabled list.
