SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Right-handed Anthony DeSclafani on Wednesday signed a one-year contract for $6 million with the San Francisco Giants, which gave the club a veteran for rotation alongside Ace Johnny Cueto.
The Giants will seek to climb some other, more sensible starter, according to baseball operations president Farhan Zaidi.
“It was an early target for us. We’ve talked a lot about hunting to put a little beginner launcher on our list and relieve some of our young pitchers,” Zaidi said. “DeSclafani is a guy who, in our opinion, has had very smart things, smart speed in the fastball, many features that we are looking for. Obviously, he didn’t have his most productive season in 2020, but in 2019 he had a really smart year. a wonderful result for us, if you could go back to that point as recently as in 2019, and we believe there are benefits even beyond that.
In his sixth season with the Reds, DeSclafani was 1–2 with a 7. 22 ERA in games, seven openings, covering 33 2/3 innings in 2020.
“My circle of relatives and I are excited about this new opportunity!Let’s move on to SFGiants,” DeSclafani posted on Twitter.
To which Giants Gabe Kapler replied, “Come on!”
DeSclafani missed all of 2017 with an elbow injury, but also quite durable, making at least 20 openings in 2015, “16”, 18 and “19”.
DeSclafani, 30, can earn an additional $250,000 in functionality bonuses depending on the tickets released. You may only earn $62,500 for 140, 160, 180 and two hundred tickets.
DeSclafani can fill a void in the rotation given the departure of Jeff Samardzija and Drew Smyly from the Giants, who missed the playoffs on the last day of Kapler’s first season as manager.
After all, the Giants and Cueto, the right, would not throw a winter ball in their local Dominican Republic, since this year was their first nearly complete season after Tommy John’s surgery.
Young pitchers Tyler Beede and Logan Webb are from surgeries.
San Francisco has 39 on the 40-player list.
