Shaka Hislop and Herc Gomez: Why USMNT’s Gio Reyna wants to leave Borussia Dortmund (1:06)
Giovanni Reyna is set to leave Borussia Dortmund in January and has already been introduced to top European clubs, sources told ESPN.
American foreigner Reyna has barely played for Dortmund this season, playing just 320 minutes in 12 games in all competitions.

Along with his agent Jorge Mendes and father Claudio, Reyna is looking to find the most productive move imaginable, whether on loan or on a permanent contract. Dortmund would like around 15 million euros ($16. 3 million) to transfer him, sources told ESPN.
Reyna, who joined the Bundesliga club in 2019, is under contract at Dortmund until June 2025.
According to sources, the 21-year-old has already been presented at several clubs: Marseille, Monaco and Lyon in France; Real Sociedad, Sevilla and Villarreal in Spain; as well as Benfica of Portugal.
Mendes has also spoken of Wolves and Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, where he has close ties, as conceivable destinations. Mendes and the Reynas hope more groups will appear.
Some of those clubs have already turned down the opportunity to sign the former New York City FC youngster, Marseille, who already have several players in Reyna’s place.
Spanish clubs are especially keen, notably Sevilla and Real Sociedad, despite Reyna’s lack of first-team action this season. They believe he has the right style of play for LaLiga and hope he could relaunch his career there.
Reyna and her entourage still have two weeks to reach their destination and may not be in a hurry to make a decision.
