One of the most promising youngsters in the group of American players, Gio Reyna has a dangerous and flexible striker at Borussia Dortmund.
The 20-year-old has battled injuries in recent seasons as he is a consistent starter for the Bundesliga giants, and recently suffered a leg injury while on duty overseas over the summer, delaying the start of his season.
Still, now that Reyna has compatibility for the time being, his return to play has excited American enthusiasts for his continued expansion as a key contributor to the club and the country. He will most likely also see a lot of BVB involvement if they continue in the Champions League as they look to fight for the Bundesliga title.
Sporting News is keeping an eye on Reyna’s season in Dortmund as he continues to regain his form and spend more time on the pitch.

Having only just returned from his leg fracture, Reyna has yet to score for Borussia Dortmund this season.
Reyna’s last goal for his club came on 13 May 2023 in a 5-2 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach. It was part of Dortmund’s eight-match unbeaten run to end the season, with Reyna making a significant contribution off the bench, scoring two. times and assisting two more in that time, all as substitutes.
Reyna has, however, scored for the U.S. national team recently, bagging his first-ever international brace against Ghana in mid-October in a 4-0 win for the USMNT.
Gio Reyna returned on 7 October, coming off the bench in the Bundesliga to close out a 4–2 win over Union Berlin.
He then made his first start on 29 October, playing forty-five minutes against Eintracht Frankfurt before being withdrawn at half-time to continue his preparation.
Reyna then played a midweek league match against Hoffenheim on 1 November and controlled more than one half for the first time, playing 70 minutes in a 1–0 DFB Cup victory.
He was an unused substitute for the 4-0 home defeat to champions Bayern Munich in the league and the 2-0 Champions League win at home to Newcastle United on November 7, but came on during the second half of Dortmund’s 2-1 top-flight defeat at Stuttgart on November 11.
