Arsenal’s new recruit, Alex Runarsson, talked about the goalkeepers he admired as a child.
The Icelandic foreigner joined the Gunners this week to update Emiliano Martinez, who has been sold to Aston Villa. Runarsson has yet to play a game for the Gunners, but it turns out that he has been following the club for some time.
The goalkeeper asked about the players he studied in his youth, and Runarsson revealed that he idolized two Gunner legends and said he sought to emulate his good luck with an Arsenal blouse in the coming years.
He said, “They’re amazing. I watched Seaman play (David) when he was little, the same as Jens Lehmann. “
“Great characters, wonderful personalities but also wonderful goalkeepers, it’s not easy to stick to those guys but you have to!Football wouldn’t be fun without that kind of pressure, so it’s going to be a challenge, but I’m willing to do it.
Seaman and Lehmann are arguably two of the biggest goalkeepers I’ve ever played for Arsenal. The duo won the Premier League with the Gunners and are an inspiration to all the young stoppers around the world.
Martinez made a big impression at Arsenal before leaving for Aston Villa. Runarsson, when you get the chance, you’ll have great shoes to fill and you probably won’t have to wait too long before you’re called into action.
The Gunners will face Leicester City in the Carabao Cup tonight. Runarsson may make his Arsenal debut and, if he manages to silence Jamie Vardy and James Maddison, he will beat the enthusiasts very quickly.
Emulsifying legends such as Seaman and Lehmann is too ambitious for Runarsson, as it is far from Leno’s most sensible place; however, he will be in a position when he gets the chance, as Martinez did last season.
