Children in Greater Manchester will benefit from thousands of additional bus seats to make it easier to return to school safely.
The combined authority has secured more than 2 million pounds from the government to increase the capacity of the advertising bus network at peak times as of Monday, September 7.
There are still restrictions on social distance to commercially controlled services, which are used in approximately 90% of schoolchildren in the city-region.
Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has an agreement with the operators to provide approximately three hundred additional bus trips each weekday.
Double buses that will be used exclusively through schoolchildren and schools will have their address numbers marked with an “S” to imply that they are school services.
Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham hopes the agreement, which will only apply in the first part of autumn, will give academics and their families “more peace of mind. “
“We are committed to making sure that young people can return to school as safely as possible,” he said.
“While we still inspire students to walk or bike to school where they can, especially for shorter trips, we know this is an option for everyone.
“However, once I get back, I’ll have to strain that we want everyone to play with their component by following protection rules and thinking about how and when to travel.
“These measures can have a significant impact. “
The expanded ones are incorporated into the bus routes where schoolchildren make up the majority of the number of passengers, with the seats being the most demanded.
Approximately 150 double trips will be made in the morning and 150 in the afternoon to lose capacity in the advertising network for other passengers.
Capacity grades will be monitored via TfGM and buses will be reassigned if necessary.
Students deserve to stick to safe travel tips when using public transportation, such as dressing in face-covering clothes, socially distanced, washing their hands, and using contactless bills when appropriate. Possible.
Yellow school buses will also function as general school buses, a pass system, so all students can use them.
