For the third consecutive season, Manchester City’s quest for a first Champions League crown ends in the quarter-finals, and Pep Guardiola (more news) will once again be asked questions.
The Catalan coach, a visionary and the guy considered the most productive tactic in football, intervened to take City to the next point, win the Champions League, but will be singled out of a family complaint following the shocking Saturday 3–1 defeat to Lyon.
This is the same Lyon that finished seventh in Ligue 1 and had played two official matches since March.

Guardiola has become accustomed to retouching his tune-up for the most important matches of recent years, so much so that his interference, even curious, is almost to be expected here.
Were yours crucial? That is debatable. Were they influential? Absolutely.
Eric Garcia had the task of starting as a central, once the game began, the rest of Guardiola’s formation, and the fact that Fernandinho has passed as the third central defender, has become clearer.
But what didn’t make much sense of the City’s top line and why they had differed from their more productive setup and starting line: Riyad Mahrez, David Silva and Bernardo Silva were among those on the bench.

As for his defense, a profane might have pointed out that Karl Toko Ekambi and Memphis Depay’s Lyon striker, as well as left-back Maxwel Cornet, have a lot of pace Surely a top line would play in their hands?
Such a background setup was exposed and punished several times in Bayern Munich’s 8-2 win over Barcelona 24 hours earlier and it was not unexpected to see Lyon blow it up by taking the lead.
After all, Lyon had already threatened with passes over the City’s defense when Toko Ekambi left without a foul in the 24th minute. And Garcia’s last shot was outstanding, Cornet was on hand to make a delicious curly effort inside the left post with Ederson off goal.
City earned the credit for a promising explosion at the end of the first half, but beyond Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling, there was very little dexterity on their part.
Guardiola’s appearance was greeted with glorious intensity after half-time, as if Rudi Garcia had told his young Lyon that this is the chance of a lifetime.
Initially, this did not lead to a great offensive sense, but to greater solidity in the back: The City had 71% of the property between half-time and 60 minutes, but failed to create a transparent opportunity for singles.
Houssem Aouar and Maxence Caqueret, the midfield pair, were notable for their effective clearing of the ball and their ability to ease tension once in possession.
Although for a while, once City tied De Bruyne, riding through Sterling, it seemed that there would only be one winner: the Premier League giants would have too much.
But Lyon suddenly came back to life, as if they had just hibernated, saving energy in case a past explosion was needed.
It is true that there is a trace of fortune in Lyon’s moment goal. Moussa Dembélé received it, but helped through a poor goalkeeper from Ederson and VAR, and the referees decided that he had not committed a foul against Aymeric Laporte in the preparation and that Toko Ekambi’s offside did not interfere in the game.
But from City’s point of view, he saw his top line exposed once more.
Sterling’s likely failure soon after summed up his day, and Lyon deserved it: Dembélé closed his moment a minute later after another Ederson howler.
The defeat deprives Guardiola of a semi-final against his former club, Bayern Munich, the dream of the last four clashes of many neutrals, although, as proof of this, Die Roten may have won a crushing victory, such were the City’s defensive problems. .
With all the qualities of Guardiola, several times before, he has been accused of complicating his life in matches of this magnitude, possibly having replaced his configuration in time against Real Madrid, but here he set the tone for the rest of the night. .
Your useless DIY. The City has more than enough capacity to beat France’s seventh best team on its own terms.
It is difficult to argue that this is not a high-level defeat that Guardiola himself has caused.
