Norwegian striker Haaland turned 20 in July and has already established himself as one of The most sensible scorers in German football.
His thirteen goals in 15 Bundesliga games since arriving mid-season from Salzburg came with a total of 44 goals in 40 appearances, divided between the two clubs.
This means that it will be Haaland for whom Dortmund will be the main risk in the new campaign, but the young Youssoufa Moukoko may also have a role to play.
Moukoko is 15 years old and has been a revelation at the youth level, in addition to education with Dortmund’s first team.
He is with the Dortmund team this week at his camp in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland, and will be eligible to play senior football at the age of 16 on 20 November.
Haaland said: “He is much bigger than me when I was 15. Train at Borussia Dortmund and continue. Me at my house club, Bryne FK, when I was 15.” You can’t compare that.
The Cameroon-born striker Moukoko has played for Germany in the under-16 category and has played for Dortmund in the Bundesliga under-19 and the UEFA Youth League.
Haaland, quoted in the newspaper Westfalische rundschau, would rather keep the pressure on the prodigy.
“But it’s hard when it’s so good, ” said Haaland. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 15-year-old boy that good.”
Dortmund said they expected Jadon Sancho to stay at the club next season amid Manchester United’s interest.
They must form a team to challenge Bayern Munich, and Moukoko’s appearance in the coming seasons can be important.
But it’s probably Haaland and Sancho who hold the key to the team’s good fortune next season, or stay at Dortmund.
Haaland added: “As a player, I need to win things, of course. If we did it last year, we also have a smart chance of having anything on our hands at the end.”
