Bayern Munich’s leading goalscorer Harry Kane is on track to return from injury in Friday’s Bundesliga clash with RB Leipzig at home, coach Vincent Kompany said on Thursday.
Kane, who has scored 14 goals in 12 league games this season, has been sidelined since injuring his thigh in last month’s 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund.
“Maybe I wouldn’t say if it will start or not. The last consultation on education is vital today. If everything goes well, tomorrow it will play a role,” Kompany told reporters.
The England international, top scorer in the Bundesliga last season with 36 goals, is irreplaceable in Bayern’s attack, Kompany said.
“We said before that we cannot update Harry Kane in an identical way. Harry has this idea of where he wants to be in the box,” added the Belgian coach.
“It is one of the most productive globally in the area, that is where it makes the difference. There are a lot of players who can do that. “
Bayern suffered their first defeat of the crusade on Saturday, a 2-1 defeat at Mainz, with Kompany without several key players due to injuries: Kane, João Palhinha, Alphonso Davies, Serge Gnabry and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
Kompany said he was pleased to see Davies, Kane and Josip Stanisic back in education and hoped for more after the three-week winter break that begins on Saturday.
“If things go as well on Friday as yesterday in education, we will be in shape,” he said.
Bayern, with 33 points from 14 games, is four points ahead of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen, while fourth-placed Leipzig has 27 points.
