Chelsea have signed Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen in an agreement of about 72 million pounds (80 million euros).
Havertz, 21, left the German education field on Friday to finalize the main points and signed a five-year contract to finish months of hypothesis about his future.
He is the last high-level catcher for the 2020–21 season at Stamford Bridge, joining Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva, and is spending more than two hundred million pounds.
“I am very satisfied and proud to be here. For me it’s a dream come true to play for a great club like Chelsea and I can’t wait to meet all the players and coaches,” Havertz said on Chelsea’s official website.”Yes, I’m very pleased to be here!”
Havertz broke into Leverkusen’s first team at the age of 17 in 2016-17 and has temporarily become a regular player in the starting line-up, appearing 37 times on the team in his first two seasons in the Bundesliga.
It was in 2018-19 that Havertz flourished, scoring 17 bundesliga goals, a record for a teenager in Germany’s most sensible career.
He followed that with 12 more in 2019-20, while his attendances doubled to six.
More than designer, Havertz’s talent in the penalty field has been compared to Michael Ballack, like him, a former Leverkusen star, and Frank Lampard, his new head coach.
But Havertz has also stood out as remarkably fast for his size, and it turns out he is well prepared to fit the Premier League if Chelsea puts him in the right position.
Barcelona, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich had been discussed as Havertz’s next potential destination, but it was Chelsea who took the step.
“Kai is one of the players his age in world football, so we are very pleased that his career is long at Chelsea,” said club director Marina Granovskaia.
“He has shown himself in one of the most productive leagues in Europe, plays for the German national team and is an exciting and dynamic talent. We are very happy to be able to upload its versatility and quality to the team before we start.”of the season.”
