Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez earned Sky Sports pundit Andy Hinchcliffe’s complaint about the Reds’ Premier League fixture against Sheffield United.
The Liverpool striker was “undecided” when presented with a wonderful opportunity to make it 2-0 against the Reds in the 77th minute.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds men went into the game at Bramall Lane hoping to keep the pressure on Premier League leaders Arsenal.
Liverpool faced the Blades at the back of the Premier League, but with a new manager on the bench, with Chris Wilder again taking the reins.
The Reds took the lead in the 37th minute after knocking on the door with a series of corners when Virgil van Dijk volleyed home one of the free kicks.
Liverpool struggled to build a cushion, however, and well into the latter stages of the game, the Reds continued to lead by one solitary goal.
In the 77th minute, Núñez played through Trent Alexander-Arnold. However, Wes Foderingham came off his line to narrow the angle and deny Nunez with his feet.
“He’s made it 2-0,” Hinchcliffe said on Soccer Special, via the Sky Sports website. “Nunez didn’t seem to make up his mind and hit the goalkeeper. “
Admittedly, Nunez would have arguably been out of the game with this opportunity, however, the £140,000-a-week powerhouse (Spotrac) is expected to convert.
Thankfully, the 24-year-old redeemed himself by offering a hand to Dominik Szoboszlai to finally end the game in second-half stoppage time.
Nunez slipped past Jayden Bogle to collect the ball, then crossed for Szoboszlai, into space, to double Liverpool’s lead and nevertheless break the Blades’ resistance.
The agent of chaos strikes again, and the Reds have managed to keep the pressure on Arsenal. Just two points separate the two after both played their 15th game of the league campaign.
