SUCSHEIM, Germany (AP) – Hoffenheim and German goalkeeper Oliver Baumann have been excluded for weeks with a foot injury.
Hoffenheim said Saturday that Bauman injured a tendon in his foot during the Europa League home defeat against Tottenham.
“It is a sour setback for all of us,” said Hoffenheim sports director Andreas Schicker. “OLI will not be able to help us in the box as a captain in the near future, but thanks to his strong personality, he will continue to play his same vital role in the team and the total team, specifically in those difficult times.
Hoffenheim was 15th in the 18-team Bundesliga, just outside the relegation zone, before the 19th round of games. Hoffenheim will host Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.
Baumann, 34, played two games for Germany last year and was thought of as a choice for Alexander Nübel, while Marc-André Ter Stegen in Barcelona recovers from a serious knee injury.
