SINSHEIM, Germany (AP) — Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann scored a penalty to keep his team tied 1-1 with Mainz in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
The team ruined their misfortune when Baumann parried Aymen Barkok’s shot in the 68th minute and Marco Richter then hit the crossbar twice as they looked for the winning goal.
Richter opened the scoring in the minute for Mainz before Robert Skov equalized in the 48th.
The draw meant Mainz were still in danger after 12 rounds, while Hoffenheim remained sixth.
Earlier, newly-promoted Heidenheim drew 0-0 with Bochum.
Bayer Leverkusen leads Bayern Munich in two games and both are adding to their early-season unbeaten streak with wins. Leverkusen beat Werder Bremen 3-0 on Saturday and Bayern earned a 1-0 win in Cologne on Friday.
