Home is comfortable as Real Sociedad beat Cádiz to claim their first home win since November

SAN SEBASTIAN, Spain (AP) — Real Sociedad earned its first home win since November when Mike Merino and Arsen Zakharyan scored to beat Cadiz 2-0 in the Spanish league on Friday night.

Merino scored his third goal in three games after 28 minutes and Zakharyan scored three minutes after coming on midway through the second half.

The win left Sociedad in sixth place in La Liga, four points ahead of Real Betis and seven ahead of Athletic Bilbao.

They hadn’t won at home since Nov. 26, but their second straight win after four straight losses marked a return to stability, midfielder Brais Mendez said.

“We haven’t won at home in 8 games, so we deserve it,” said Mendez, one of the home team’s standout players that night. “We had a bad run but we’re motivated. “

Cadiz remained third from the bottom, two points behind Celta Vigo, who sacked former Liverpool and Everton manager Rafael Benitez on Wednesday.

Granada were second-to-last and Almeria, the only club in Europe’s top five leagues yet to win all season, finished last.
