FOXBORO, Mass. – Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots, David Andrews’ first since Super Bowl LIII.
Cam Newton helped do even more for the veterans center.
After Newton scored the moment of his two touchdowns in New England’s 21-11 win over the Miami Dolphins, he passed the ball to Andrews for the peak celebration.
Andrews, who got lost all last season with blood clots in his lungs, the gesture.
“It was wonderful,” Andrews said in his post-match video conference. “He’s a wonderful teammate, man, and you’ll love watching this guy play the game. The way he plays and see all the paintings he’s made. “I am very proud of him and today we have a great time”.
Newton, who put stellar functionality into his patriots debut, recounted andrews’ sadness in the 2019 season. The quarterback also spent most of the crusade off the field, a touchdown in the injured reserve with a foot injury after only two games.
“Dave is a user I like, a user who didn’t like football,” Newton said after Sunday’s game. “And for him to appreciate it as much as I do I get excited to see how he works, his total presentation, the way he presents himself every day, the way he practices, he was the first user I saw, so I knew he would appreciate it.
Andrews’ birthday party is also a way for Newton to honor his offensive line, which maimed miami’s front in the ground game. The Patriots finished with 217 yards on the court in 42 hauls, more than they accumulated in any game last season.
Newton loaded the ball 15 times for 75 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Patriots into all three categories. Sony Michel, Rex Burkhead, J. J. Taylor, James White and open receiver Julian Edelman recorded more than 20 yards.
“Often, by having your hand on the field, you don’t necessarily get the popularity you deserve,” Newton said. “But nothing that happened to me would have happened without those big guys at the front.
The Patriots used a correct take on the rotation, with rookie Mike Onwenu playing Jermaine Eluemunor as the song’s starter at times, however Andrews and the other four starters on the O line played from cable to cable. After what happened a year ago, Andrews said. He “extremely grateful” for the opportunity to play.
“By now last year, I didn’t know if I could take a step back in a football box,” Andrews said. “And then you look at what happened this spring and what we’re still dealing with, I don’t know when or if we were going to walk on a football box for everything that happens in the world.
“I am incredibly grateful to be able to play this game. God was smart with this child from Georgia, and this game was smart for me. “
