Amorim lost his seventh game in 15 since he participated, the club lost his fifth in 8 games and Brighton outplayed them for much of the match. Yankuba Minteh scored five minutes before Bruno Fernandes headed in a United shot.
In the second half, Joao Pedro saw a goal ruled out for a foul but Kaoru Mitoma volleyed home on the hour mark and Georginio Rutter tapped in after a horrendous Andre Onana error.
The result leaves United deserted in 13th place, with Amorim calling his “perhaps the worst team in Manchester United’s history” after the game.

Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Fabian Hurzeler says Kaoru Mitoma “has it all” after the left winger’s influential role in the 3-1 win over Manchester United.
Hurzeler said: “When Kaoru stays active and not close to the ball, when he knows how to use his speed to make deep runs at the right time and at the right time, then he’s a wonderful, wonderful player.
“Because he has everything. He is fast, he is good one against one, he can score goals, he can find solutions in narrow spaces with not a lot of time.

Continuing to discuss Manchester United’s poor form after the match, manager Ruben Amorim added: “It is hard to explain, we have to acknowledge the moment and not go around the problem.
“Everyone here has a lower performance, regardless of circumstances. It is unacceptable to lose so many games for a club in the Premier League, regardless of Manchester United. It is a difficult time but we have to move on.
“The conflict sides are greater than us in many details. We cannot be consistent. I don’t have my players at this time.
“It is a hard moment. We have to acknowledge we are in a very difficult situation. All the bad records, losing games at home, losing in the Premier League, we are really underperforming.”

United have now lost four of their last six matches in the league to sit closer to the relegation zone (10 points) than the top four (12). That latter figure stood at only seven when Erik ten Hag was sacked back in October and Amorim knows everything must improve.
“In 10 games in the Premier League we won two, I know that,” Amorim said. “Imagine this for a fan of Manchester United, imagine this for me. You are getting a new coach who is losing more than the last coach. Imagine that. We need to survive this moment. I know that.
“We are the worst team in the history of Manchester United. I know you want headlines, but I say this because we want to acknowledge this and replace this. So there you have it, your title.
