Celtic’s grip on the Scottish Premiership table is strong heading into the final five games of the season after Rangers squandered a great opportunity at Dundee on Wednesday night.
A win for Philippe Clement’s side would have reduced the gap to just one point to league leaders Celtic, but Rangers failed to win for a third game in a row in the top flight.
The Ibrox side were mediocre in the 0-0 draw at Dens Park. Both sides had chances to score that all-important first goal, but there was a genuine lack of quality and composure throughout the 90 minutes.
A draw for Brendan Rodgers’ Bhoys at Ibrox, followed by a Rangers defeat at Dingwall against County Ross, and tonight’s result completely reshaped the look of the name race until just a few weeks ago.
Celtic (3 transparent numbers) are now the favourites to play the last five games and win the title for the third consecutive season after two victorious campaigns in the Premiership, Ange Postecoglou.
The Bhoys will play in the Scottish Cup this weekend against Aberdeen at Hampden, but will return to league action on Sunday, April 28 at Dundee.
Then there are the home games opposite the Hearts and Rangers. After that, we have a much clearer idea of where cutlery is headed this season.
The final week of the season will see Celtic visit Kilmarnock on Wednesday 15 May before hosting St Mirren on 18 May.
Of course, nothing has been won yet. There will arguably be more twists and turns in this name race, but Celtic have everything in their hands after seeing their rivals succumb to genuine tension in recent days.
Rodgers wants to make sure his team remains motivated and hungry. Complacency can’t creep into performances as they have in previous events this season. Let’s get rid of the guys!
