LA Galaxy are to revive their interest in Hull City captain Jordy de Wijs this summer, according to reports in his native Holland.

The MLS side first showed their interest in the 25-year-old during the January window, ahead of the Tigers suffering a disastrous collapse that brought relegation to League One.

De Wijs is among those reluctant to play in the third tier and De Telegraaf, the largest paper in the Netherlands, say he will be offered an escape route across the Atlantic ahead of the 2020-21 season getting underway.

The centre-back, who joined the Tigers for £300,000 two years ago, would command a significant transfer fee and City are open to the prospect of cashing in on a player due to become a free agent next summer.

De Wijs has endured a mixed time at the KCOM Stadium after first joining from PSV Eindhoven in July 2018.

A difficult first season was followed by a much-improved second term, with Grant McCann calling the defender the best in the Championship.

De Wijs was made City captain in the wake of Eric Lichaj leaving during lockdown but he endured a miserable time as skipper.

The 8-0 defeat away to Wigan was the last time De Wijs featured in City’s run-in, with the centre-back dropped for the 1-0 loss to Luton and then absent from the matchday squad as relegation was confirmed in a 3-0 defeat at Cardiff.

De Wijs is currently on a family break in Holland but is due to be part of a City squad that resumes pre-season training on Monday.
