Humza Yousaf has said he would be “president of Celtic” if he hadn’t gotten into politics.

The Prime Minister has never hidden his from the Hoops. But he now admits that leading them from the boardroom would have been his ideal role if he hadn’t taken another path and ended up running the country. Mr Yousaf was asked about his career on the Pod Save the UK podcast with comedian Nish Kumar and journalist Coco Khan.

He was asked on behalf of a listener, who pre-empted his question to the Scottish head of government by saying: “This will have to do with Celtic. ” The SNP leader replied, laughing: “Yes, I mean, apart from being chairman of Celtic Football Club, which of course I would do if I wasn’t in politics. ” He went on to reveal that he would most likely have entered the legal profession.

Earlier this week, the Prime Minister explained on The rest Is Politics podcast how long his deal with the Premiership champions has lasted. He said: “I’ve been a Celtic fan since I was six years old, so to say I’m not a Celtic fan would be a bit ridiculous.

“My late uncle, who sadly passed away quite young from pancreatic cancer, took me to my first Celtic game and i just fell in love with the club.”
