The first meeting between Lionel Messi’s father and Barcelona officials on Wednesday ended the agreement on the player’s future, a user familiar with the stage told The Associated Press.
The user stated that the club’s preview, Josep Bartomeu, had spoken for about 90 minutes with Jorge Messi to discuss the Argentine star’s request to leave the club, but that neither aspect had made concessions.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the user is not legal to speak publicly about the user meeting.
Lionel Messi said last week at Barcelona that he intended to leave the club and invoked a contractual clause that allowed him to go free at the end of the season, but Barcelona claimed that the clause expired in June and said he had to see his contract.until June 2021, unless the club pays its termination clause of 700 million euros ($837 million).
