I ran my first Aldi store when I was only 20 years old; now I run 4 of them

Will Smith, who began as an ambitious student eager to get acquainted with global retail control in the most productive place imaginable, may not miss the opportunity to advance in Aldi’s career.

Here he tells how he began his career at Aldi as a component of the commercial placement program and returned as a graduate to an Aldi industry manager.

Will was first attracted to a career at Aldi when he was looking for features for his year in the industry, a component of his bachelor’s degree in economics from Leeds University.

He says: “I’m very ambitious and I like to control myself, so when I knew that only candidates most sensitive to their form would get a position in Aldi’s competitive commercial positioning program, I had to leave.

“Before I applied, I did studies talking to several colleagues who had done commercial internships elsewhere, all of whom encouraged me to apply to Aldi. I also read the program on Aldi’s recruiting site that I discovered incredibly useful. As a result, I knew I would get genuine skills that would allow me to complete my career and free my career.

“I was also drawn to the concept that, when I held the business position of the general management, I would be exposed to Aldi’s head office, as well as the store environment, to have a holistic view of how the business works.

Speaking about his reports during his internship, Will says, “I was in my first store while the store manager was away and I won’t forget the pride I felt in making everything work out at the age of 20.

“He exposed me to the inner workings of the workshop and nevertheless helped me complete my final task at the end of the program. “

After effectively completing his degree, earning a score of 2:1, Will presented the position of Regional Director of Graduate Studies and the duty of 4 retail outlets in the Chelmsford area.

“I am also part of the team that organizes and executes the opening of new stores, adding the new Peterborough store. Before this opening, I worked with others from Aldi to announce the opening and recruited the store team.

“In 2019, I also had the opportunity to be part of an allocation team to reorganize the way Aldi distributes its retail outlets across all regions. Ten retail outlets were placed under the duty of my regional chelmsford team, so I had to work with them to make the new supply chain and deliveries work efficiently, and that the workshop and warehouse groups were satisfied with the changes.

Having gained delight in the Aldi business, taking on the duty of managing and opening his own outlets and construction thanks to his strong control skills, Will now runs outlets in West London and is looking forward, knowing that Aldi offers many opportunities.

He explains: “I have already been very fortunate in my career, having worked with many inspiring colleagues and played a role in projects.

“In the future, I would like to continue and motivate my team, as well as a new challenge like moving to another country. I would be interested to know more about the demanding situations facing other markets and help succeed. “about them.
