Veteran striker Vedad Ibisevic joined Schalke on Thursday for a loose from Hertha Berlin, then announced that he would donate his salary to a charity.

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s 36-year-old striker has signed a one-year contract, reinforcing David Wagner’s Schalke after scoring 127 goals in 340 Bundesliga games with Hertha, Hoffenheim, Stuttgart and Aachen.

Ibisevic said reports that he would earn only 100,000 euros a year at the Schalke cash payment were “fake,” but explained why he was still looking to donate his base salary to a Gelsenkirchen charity.

“The sums around them are false, but I spoke to my agent and sought to make a great story,” Ibisevic told the Schalke website.

“Of course Schalke is in a complicated monetary situation, but that didn’t worry me because I’m not here to make money, yet to play in the Bundesliga.

“So we agreed that I will get a base salary, only what I want for canopy insurance, which will be donated to a charity and I will play for bonuses. “

After the resignation of former billionaire President Clemens Toennies in June, Schalke admits he wants “big savings” to survive.

They kicked off the new Bundesliga season at Bayern Munich on 18 September.

Ibisevic has made it clear that his main motivation for joining the Royal Blues is to make his Bundesliga career bigger.

“Schalke 04 is a great club, you don’t have to think twice before joining them,” said Ibisevic, Hertha’s captain last season.

Schalke finished last season in depressing form with 16 consecutive losses.

On Saturday, they ceded the 22-year-old American midfielder Weston McKennie, one of his best prospects, to Juventus for an initial sum of 4. 5 million euros ($5. 4 million).
