MILAN (AP) – Zlatan Ibrahimovic is back in Italy and able to sign a new contract with AC Milan.
“Finally, everything is in position and I can nevertheless go back to where I feel at home,” Ibrahimovic said on arrival at Milan Linate airport on Saturday night.
Ibrahimovic, 38, is expected to sign a one-season contract for 7 million euros ($8.3 million).
Ibrahimovic began his stint at Milan in January on a six-month contract and helped defeat the Rossoneri season with 10 goals in 18 Serie A games.
The seven-time European champion Milan finished sixth in the Italian league and secured a spot in the Europa League.
“Like I said, I’m not here to be a pet. I’m here to bring effects and help the team, the coach and the team get back to where Milan deserves to be,” Ibrahimovic said in a video on the Milan website.
“We had six wonderful months but we didn’t win anything,” he added. “This year I’m lucky enough to be here from the beginning, so we have to keep going as we were, running hard and sacrificing ourselves to achieve our goals.”
Serie A opens on September 19.
